Caption | In this fairytale scene, the frozen surface of Brock Creek reflects light from a brilliant aurora on the evening of March 10, 2022. The foreground is lit by the half-full moon. The bright star on the right is Arcturus.Take a look at the edge of the ice, near the cabin. Notice how the ice looks higher than the ground? That isn't an optical illusion; it really is. This is overflow ice. After the creek freezes in autumn, water flowing underneath finds its way up through cracks. It reaches the surface, only the quickly freeze. This process repeats throughout the winter, gradually building up the ice level. | |
