Caption | Bead lightning strikes a power line near Alpine, Texas, on the evening of May 22, 2018. This was taken with a lighting trigger device, which opens a camera's shutter when a bolt is detected. By the time the shutter responded, the powerful return stroke phase of the bolt was finished, and current was no longer flowing. The luminous ionization channel was breaking up into shorts sections. This is called bead lightning. Near the ground, the bolt induced blue electric arcs at two power poles. | |
