Caption | A powerful cone tornado, spawned by a low-topped supercell, moves over grassland west of Spalding, Nebraska, on the afternoon of May 12, 2023. This tornado was exceptional due to the small vertical extent of its parent storm. The horizontal size of the associated mesocyclone was also quite small, not much wider than the tornado itself, allowing sunlight to flood the area surrounding the funnel. | |
